Photo of the Week - July 30, 2012

The National Day of the Cowboy 2012 was celebrated this last Saturday at a friends ranch south of Santa Fe. I had an invite to watch the festivities and had a blast. Western Polo, barrel racing, a chuck wagon lunch and a tack swap meet gave me ample photo opportunities. Even though I had a ton of action images of cowboys and their horses, I thought this one showed the quieter side of the day.

Photo of the Week - July 23, 2012

This weeks "Photo of the Week" was taken on the Rio Grande River, near Pilar, NM. It was the end of the day for one of my workshops last month. When we arrived at this spot, the sun had just disappeared over the ridge of the gorge taking away the light I had hoped for while driving. I had just starting to apologized to my students when we looked out over the river to see these magnificent colors reflecting off of the adjacent hillsides. Needless to say, we stayed until all light had vanished from the water.

Photo of the Week - July 16, 2012

A couple of weeks back, Chris & I took a drive up into Southern Colorado. We found some very out of the way places that day, all with differing beauty. This chapel was in Mogote, Colorado. The steeple reminded me of something you might see in the New England area.

Photo of the Week - July 9, 2012

This is an image in my new series titled "So New Mexico". I have been recently working on a group of black & white images that represent the eclectic and sometimes bizarre features found around New Mexico. This roadside scene is in Galisteo. I'm not too sure if this is a real advertisement sign for a business or not. But the setting, including the cow skulls resting in the dead tree, tend to lend itself to be place to be avoided if your in need of a remedy of sorts.

Photo of the Week - July 2, 2012

This is one of my favorite spots to go on my photo day trips. It's in the San Luis Valley of Southern Colorado, crossing a much shallower version of the Rio Grande River Gorge. I have a similar version of the same bridge posted on my Photo of the Week back from October, 2011. I can't really pick a favorite between the two images. Hope you enjoy.
