The sunsets around Taos are almost always memorable regardless of the time of year. But lately, they have been spectacular!! This image was taken a couple of weeks back during a crescent moon at one of my favorite sunset locations. I like the old corral buildings and fence silhouette against the multi-colored sunset. The moon just adds to my love of this image. Hope you enjoy this weeks “Photo of the Week.”

A couple of weeks back we took a drive over to Capulin Volcano, east of Raton, New Mexico. The volcano was less than inspiring, but interesting to see none the less. The place I did enjoy was the small out of the way village of Folsom. It was obvious that the economy problems weren't doing Folsom any favors, but the people we did see on that Sunday afternoon seemed to be having a real good time anyway.
What was left of an old downtown consisted of the Folsom Museum, an old mechanic's garage and a slew of old vacant buildings. (click here to see the village's web site) The one building that caught my eye was the old Folsom Hotel.....boarded up and over grown.....just my kind of subject matter!! Anyway, this image is the fruits of that labor. Hope you enjoy.

New Mexico is dotted with a variety of these roadside memorials called "Descanso's". They usually commemorate a site where a person died suddenly and unexpectedly, away from home. Recently I have been noticing many descanso's glowing and illuminated at night along the roadsides. This one in particular is using solar power to remind people that "Trish" unfortunately died at this desolate spot. With a full moon rising over the mountains in the background, the impact of the moment and this particular descanso really hit home. I do not know the family of Trish, but it is very obvious that they love and miss her very much. Drive safe everyone.

This weeks photo of the week is an image from a photo safari through the Valle Vidal last weekend. I think I saw 7-8 vehicles the whole 3+ hours we drove around the area. Nice picnic at Shuree Ponds with a friendly chipmunk scamming some Frito's from us. Great place to realize what this world probably looked like 100's of years ago.

Somewhere 13 miles northeast of Cimarron, NM and 28 miles southwest of Raton, NM, is the "Middle of Nowhere", and yes.... you CAN get a cold beer there!! Stopped here a couple of nights ago to try to get a photo of the full moon rising. Just too many clouds. But a cool shot none the less and if I'd been a little thirsty, a "Cold Beer".
