Photo of the Week - December 31, 2012

This is the last image of 2012. I took it with the intention of including it in my "So New Mexico" project. The location is in Galisteo, a big art community, south of Santa Fe. It is one of my favorite places to shoot and take students. In fact, this image is from one of my tours last month. Every time I go here I see something new or something in new light. This was a scene I had photographed from a few other angles many times before, but this image is the one I like the best. Happy New Year to everyone.

Photo of the Week - December 24, 2012

I know this image was previously on my FB page but from the response from people to that posting I decided to move it up to Photo of the Week status on my web site. Everyone in Taos that drive down to Santa Fe go by this drive-in on the way, so there are many here in town that recognize this building. I'm not sure how long it has been there, but I would guess sometime in the 60's. It reminds me of a 50's drive-in you would see in the movie American Graffiti. The food I have tried is excellent, but keep in mind it is a typical fast food fare. I love the homemade burrito. A painter friend of ours, Tim Horn used a painting of the Stop & Eat for the cover of his 2013 calendar. Seeing his work & the insistence of my wife gave me the idea of a late evening-light shot of the drive-in. Both color & black & white images look great. Thank you to Tim & Chris for inspiring this image. Merry Christmas everyone.

Photo of the Week - December 17, 2012

This image was taken from the Rim Road above the Valdez Valley this last weekend right after a big storm dropped a few inches of snow on the area. I saw this scene as a B&W images when I took it. Nice to have the final image look like the vision I had at the time.

Photo of the Week - December 10, 2012

Yesterday's snow added a beautiful accent to my neighbor's front entry gate. I would venture a guess of approximately 3-4 inches of snow fell during the day. With the snow blowing directly into my face it made for interesting maneuvers to keep the flakes off of the front of the lens. If you look closely, the Union Jack is flying under the US Flag. Could make you second guess that we are actually in Taos.

Photo of the Week - December 3, 2012

This last week we drove down to the Bosque de Apache National Wildlife Refuge south of Socorro, NM with a friend of ours. This time of year there are thousands of migratory birds that use the land along the Rio Grande River as a stopover on their journey south for the winter. We were not disappointed it what awaited us, although there were less birds there this year than last. It is still an amazing site to see the magnitude of winged creatures on in one spot. On top of the beauty of the birds and scenery, the full moon also came up over the waters to punctuate the end of our day at the Bosque.
