Photo of the Week - May 27, 2013

Happy Memorial Day. I thought this image was appropriate for today. It was taken a few weeks ago on our travels through Wyoming in the little town of Lingle. The red, white & blue painting of the stage area... and the requisite flag pole reminded me of the patriotism found in small town America. Blessings to all of our soldiers and veterans.

Photo of the Week - May 20, 2013

Here is a recent image from Saguaro National Park, west of Tucson, Arizona. Once I was in the park area, I had less than a hour of sunset light to find a good location to shoot this scene. Running around the sand....in the dark, watching for rattlers was also fun!!

Photo of the Week - May 13, 2013

I love old neon motel & restaurant signs, but they have to be a 1950's to 1960's era though. There is something about the graphics that really appeals to me. And of course the best time to photograph these signs is when they are glowing....nighttime, my favorite time to photograph. This one is in Custer, South Dakota. The lights in the lobby just happen to add to the nostalgia of the scene.

Photo of the Week - May 6, 2013

Instead of the normal one day photo tour my wife and I usually take around New Mexico, we decided to head north on a week long tour that included stops in Wyoming, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma an...d New Mexico. This iconic image of a buffalo was taken in Custer State Park in South Dakota. We were just a hand full of patrons in the park this day and were able to drive right in among the herds of buffalo, antelope, white tail deer, and wild burros without any congestion of vehicles or tourists. This big guy was maybe 25 feet away from my camera and perched magnificently on a ridge. We just turned off the engine and sat a watched him and the herd of 30-40 roam around the truck, munch on the grasses, snort and every once in awhile....add a little natural carbon monoxide to the atmosphere.

Here is a link to a cute video of the park: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-f13QcidVQ

Photo of the Week - April 29, 2013

I'm a few days late for my Photo of the Week web page entry, due in large part to the road trip we took last week and the work entailed in processing over 2500 images from our 7 days on the road. I still have quite a few images to look through, but this week's image is from the first evening of our trip in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This is the Wyoming state capital dome with a very prominent full moon adding to the evening.
