Photo of the Week - June 24, 2013

I debated in my head for days where to photograph the "Super Moon" last night. I visualized something silhouetting against the glow of the moon and hopefully still get some blue light from the setting sun. The angle of the structure in the foreground needed to align with the moonrise...etc. I found it all at the Llano chapel outside of Penasco. Except for a couple mosquito bites, I like the outcome.

Photo of the Week - June 17, 2013

New Mexico is not just dusty streets, mud buildings, and old decaying cars, as many people outside of our state may think. This is the John Dunn Bridge crossing the Rio Grande River, a few miles north of Taos, near the village of Arroyo Hondo. This area is also included within the boundaries of the recently created Rio Grande del Norte National Monument. This image was from last week, in between potential thunderstorms. The sky was a little dark but made for great reflections in the water.

One of many interesting relics along Old Route 66. This one is in Newberry Springs, California.

Photo of the Week - June 3, 2013

I was a reluctant passenger as a kid in the 60's as my parents drove us all back east to visit family every "very hot" summer along "Americas Highway"....US Route 66. Many of the old curio shops from that era are now dust, but a few still remain off of the interstate. I have admired this one shop in particular from the freeway many times....always wanting to stop but usually time & distance to travel constraints made it off limits. Finally having the time recently, I was able to stop at a time of day that afforded some great light and enough time to really explore the place. This is one of the images that I think captures the feeling of the place.
