Photo of the Week - December 30, 2013

This weeks image was taken right down the street from my home in Taos, taken last January during one of the biggest snow dumps of that winter. In seeing this image it made me realize just how fast a year can go by. For me, 2013 was one of my all time best. I hope all of you can say the same. Happy New Year to everyone.

Photo of the Week - December 23, 2013

The evening skies at sunset during the winter here in Taos can be spectacular (I'm not saying the rest of the year ain't chopped liver either). I think it is the cold temperatures and elevation along with the crystal clear air. This was last night western sky just after the sun set.

Photo of the Week - December 9, 2013

Luminarias are a traditional Christmas Eve decoration and are said to originate from centuries old Spaniard merchants. These ancient Spaniards were impressed with the paper lanterns from the Chinese culture and decided to make their own version. Traditionally, luminarias are made from brown paper bags weighted down with sand and illuminated from within by a lit candle. They are typically arranged in rows to create large and elaborate displays. The hope among Roman Catholics is that the lights will guide the spirit of the Christ child to one's home.

Photo of the Week - December 2, 2013

Cliff Palace in Mesa Verde National Park from a few years back. I really want to head back there soon. This image was taken in 2006 so it is way past time for another visit.
