Photo of the Week - April 7, 2014

This weeks image was taken a few weeks back from the Alamosa National Wildlife Refuge, east of Alamosa, Colorado. The refuge lies next to the Rio Grande in the San Luis Valley which is surrounded by snow covered mountains no matter which way you look. This image is of Blanca Peak near the southern end of the Rocky Mountains. It is the fourth highest peak in the Rockies and the eighth highest in the contiguous states at 14,345 feet. I happened to photograph the mountain on a beautiful sky filled cloudy day that created some great shadow effects around the peak.
