Photo of the Week - July 28, 2014

The last month and a half or so Northern New Mexico has been experiencing its yearly monsoon season. Beautiful mornings and afternoon clouds and rainstorms. I love this time of year. The afternoon brings with it thunderhead clouds, sporadic rains, thunder & lightning, spectacular light and sometimes rainbows, all making for some of the most dramatic skies and sunsets. It really is an artist dream around here. This image was taken at the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge rest area looking north towards Questa. The image title came from when I looked that way in the car and said to my wife, Hey, "It's Raining in Questa".......deep huh, I know.

Photo of the Week - July 21, 2014

This week...a little color. This was taken at White Sands National Monument in the southern part of New Mexico, an area that stands in stark contrast to where I live in the northern part of the state. When I left home that morning it was in the high 50's in Taos. By the end of the day in White Sands it was in the low 100's. Another BIG contrast!! But no matter where you travel around New Mexico the beauty always surrounds you. This is proof!

Photo of the Week - July 14, 2014

If I am ever in the mood for a drive and want a place close by that will "ALWAYS" deliver for unending spectacular beauty, Ghost Ranch has never failed to deliver. It doesn't matter which season. Black & white or color image....makes no difference. I just love it there. This image was from last year in late August during one of our many monsoon afternoons.

Photo of the Week - July 7, 2014

White Sands National Monument in southern New Mexico is another of the many spectacular geologic locations found throughout the state. An interesting footnote to this park is that it is totally surrounded by the White Sands Missile Range and there are times access is denied to visitors in order to protect them from possible stray missiles during test periods. This happened to us the next morning after the evening of this weeks image.....all was not lost though, I did head back to Alamogordo for a great pancake breakfast.

Photo of the Week - June 30, 2014

Just back from a few days down in the heat of southern New Mexico so I am a day late on getting this weeks image out. This week's photo is from our drive back home yesterday through Espanola. I have driven by this sign a hundred times over the last few years and either the lighting was wrong or I just didn't have the time to stop on the way through town. Yesterday's sky just seemed to give the image the pop that all of those other days just didn't have. I hope you all like it.
