Photo of the Week - December 29, 2014

Happy New Year to everyone. 2015 here we come!! I wish all of my friends and family a joyful and safe holiday and new year. And I hope for Christie and myself a continuation of the same of what we experienced this last year. It was one great year!!

This is my last "Photo of the Week "image for 2014. I decided it had to be from around Taos and it had to be Black & White, my favorite medium. I have photographed these old bird houses in every season of the year but I never really liked any of them until the snow arrived a few days ago. A good blanketing of winter can really change a scene.....and a nice morning walk in it.... one's outlook on life.

Photo of the Week - December 22, 2014

This was taken during the sunset over the Rio Grande Gorge on the Winter Solstice (12-21-14) from the gorge overlook south of Taos. I went there expecting some glorious color at the end of the day since there were so many clouds and a horizon opening just below them for the sun to peek through before the sun actually set. What I witnessed was maybe 2-3 minutes of color quickly moving across the plateau with the rest of my time there in boring shadows. Luckily the camera was ready.

Photo of the Week - December 15, 2014

I was up early the morning of this image and I still wasn't the first one there as evidenced by the footsteps heading to the front door. This is the San Francisco de Asis church in Ranchos de Taos, arguably one of the most photographed locations around the Taos area....I just added to that list....again!

Photo of the Week - December 8, 2014

We stayed near the Grand Canyon last Sunday on our way back to Taos from California. Our time there just happened to be timed with the full moon. The full moon set time that morning was also timed with the sunrise time.....all the signs were lining up for us this morning. This image is from Hopi Point along Hermit Road which is usually closed to vehicle traffic except for about 6 weeks in December & January.....again more signs lining up!! It was cold and pretty dark when we arrived and we were the first ones there. Another very unique event, especially at the Grand Canyon. What I witnessed that morning with the sunrise and the moon set happening at opposite views of Hopi Point at the same time was spectacular and I have 100's of beautiful images to prove that point.

Photo of the Week - December 1. 2014

This weeks image was from a couple months back on a drive through Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee. This particular morning I was surprised to drive up upon a line of vehicles waiting at the entrance gate to get into the park. I thought I was up early, but....nope!! Anyway after letting the initial group of vehicles (and some very smelly diesel RV's) drive on into the park past me, I really did feel like I had some small parts of the park all to myself. This drive into the Cades Cove part of the park was spectacular at all different times of the day, but this mornings sunrise in particular just added to the beauty I was already surrounded by.
