Photo of the Week - January 26, 2015

This image is the final product from the first time I have stopped at Camel Rock to photograph the site in over 9 years of driving by. In the parking area at the bottom of the hill was approximately 6-7 inches of snow from the night before, so that blanket of white adds a lot to the scene from it normal look. This last weeks snow storm really helped add some interest to me of this strange rock form north of Santa Fe.

Photo of the Week - January 19, 2015

With all of the other Facebook posting I have been doing in the past couple days and my server deciding this was a good time to start acting up, I have been a little late in getting this weeks image posted and on the web site. Anyway, since this July will be the 100 year anniversary of the founding of the Taos Society of Artists, I decided to use a recent snow covered image of the E. I. Couse studio here in Taos for this weeks image.

Photo of the Week - January 12, 2015

This last fall Chris & I took a 4 week - 5000 mile drive from Taos to West Virginia and then back again to visit family and site see along the way. In both directions of our drive we stayed and explored in Southern Indiana just north of Louisville, Kentucky, the place where I was born....lived for the first 7 years of my life and had not been back to visit in over 43 years. Both my parents families had lived in the same small county for so many generations I have lost count. Having not visited this area since a family vacation in 1971 I impressed myself (and my wife) that I was able to drive (without the need to ask direction) to all of the family's old homesteads and relatives final resting places. This image is a distant photo of the Valeene Chapel (really out on some back roads) as taken on Bacon Road. The adjacent hillside cemetery is where most of my father's side of the family are all buried (grandparents, great grandparents, great-greats and so on).The emotions I was feeling in this image while driving up and then visiting were almost overwhelming. Then to get back home weeks later and see the results of the final image helped bring back so many good memories of not only my feeling of that day but of all the wonderful families members that have been out of my life for decades but still have an influence on how I always live my daily life. It was a great day and one I will never forget.

Photo of the Week - January 5, 2015

This image is the first of 52 of my weekly posts for this coming year. I'm looking forward to showing you the images, telling the stories and exploring the roads that I will travel this coming year. But as I have done in the past, the end of year also affords me the excuse to go back and look at the previous years images (like this one) and remember all of the places I have traveled to and the people I have met along way. Photography has given me a life I had never thought possible in years past. Thank you all for remotely tagging along on these rides and adventures of mine.
