The afternoon monsoon storm clouds have been rolling in a lot lately and if they happen during one of my photo tours can make for sometimes.... great imagery and other times....not so much. Luckily, my tour last Wednesday provided some great images. This was taken at Plaza Blanca and no...the top of the monument hasn't blown off. Great clouds though don't you think!!!

Coming back from our un-scheduled California road trip we decided to spend the night in Holbrook, Arizona. We found an old Route 66 motel (Globetrotter Lodge) that has been lovingly restored to its 1950's style that just happened to be right across the road from the historic Wigwam Motel. Being there at sunset, with Jupiter & Venus next to the setting crescent moon made for a spectacular evening view. This image was again with my handheld G10 camera, perched on top of an old tree stump. Not knowing if I could hold the camera steady enough in this low light, I took about 7-8 images of this scene. About half turned out nice. This was one of those. Thank god for that old stump!!
Well, last week's image is a little late (sorry), but it was at least it was taken on the day I was suppose to be posting the weekly image. Circumstances required that we head to California at the very last minute last Monday to take care of some emergency business and since I figured I wouldn't have a lot of time or the motivation to use my normal camera's, I just brought along my little handheld Canon G10. Well, I should know better by now, but Mother Nature was putting on too spectacular of a show to avoid at least stopping along the Old Route 66 highway to snap a few quick shots of this sunset.....oh there was lightning too, but I didn't bring my tripod and necessary equipment for that part of the image. Damn!!! Anyway, I hope you enjoy none the less.

Yesterday I headed down to the KGB Distillery near Alcalde, New Mexico with a group of friends to visit the distillery of "Taos Lightning " bourbon and rye whiskey. Great time and so nice to meet John Bernasconi, the owner of the business. This is an image of my friend Craig holding an oversized bottle of Taos Lightning bourbon in front of one of the German made stills of the distillery.

The last couple of weeks I have driven by this portable corral area near La Madera, New Mexico on some photo tours I offer. Each time the corral has been full of cattle being subjected to the age old ritual of branding. This day was particularly interesting while we watched this cowhand and his horse gracefully maneuver through and between the herd to steer unbranded animals towards to control chute. Both cowboy and horse worked so well together it almost looked like a ballet......albeit with a painful ending for one of the other participants. It was a great show though.
